It’s one of the first questions we hear from business owners: “Should I build a website or an app?” Both are useful, but they do different jobs. Here’s a simple way to decide.
Start with a website if…
- People need to find you. Customers search on Google before they call. A website is how you show up.
- You want enquiries. A clear page with your services, photos and a contact form turns visitors into leads.
- Most visitors come once or occasionally. Nobody installs an app to check opening hours.
For most shops, clinics, consultants and new businesses, a website comes first. It’s faster to build, costs less and works on every phone and computer.
Build an app when…
- The same people use it every day or every week — students checking classes, members booking slots, customers reordering.
- You need phone features like notifications, offline access, the camera or location.
- You want a direct line to customers on their home screen, not just in search results.
When to have both
Educational institutes are a good example. The website brings in new admissions; the app serves enrolled students with classes, materials and updates. The two work together, and they can share the same data behind the scenes.
Our advice
Start with a strong website, learn what your customers ask for most, then build an app for the people who come back again and again. Whichever you choose, add automation from day one so enquiries, reminders and follow-ups don’t depend on someone remembering.
